Fifty Shade of Grey by LokSze Joyce Chan 44772297

A review of Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey is an erotic romance drama film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson with a screenplay by Kelly Marcel was released in 2015. This film is based on the novel of the same name published in 2011 by British author E. L . James. Even though you haven't watched this movie, you must have heard of the song name "Love Me Like You Do" by Ellie Goulding. This song was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

The movie is about a twenty-one-year-old Anastasia "Ana" Steele who is an English literature major at Washington State University's satellite campus near Vancouver, Washington. Her roommate, Kate Kavanagh, becomes ill and is unable to interview Christian Grey, a 27-year-old billionaire entrepreneur, for the college newspaper. Ana agrees to go in her place and meets Christian at his Seattle headquarters, literally stumbling her way through the meeting. Christian, who is that year's WSU commencement speaker, takes an interest in her; soon after, he visits the hardware store where Ana works. He agrees to Ana's request for a photo-shoot to accompany the article.

He goes to the bar to find Ana, even though she doesn't tell him where she is. While they are talking at the bar Ana passes out. She wakes up the next morning in Christian's hotel room and is relieved when he says they were not intimate.

This movie is simply showing another unique type of relationship existed in the world which is BDSM (Bondage Discipline Sadism and Masochism), a dominant is the partner in a BDSM relationship or in a BDSM scene who takes the active and controlling role over that of the submissive partners. In this film, a person who submits control of a large percentage of his or her day-to-day life to a dominant partner, or who submits within a formal set of rules and rituals, is the slave, and the person who assumes power over the slave is the master or mistress. Christian is considered as the dominant while Ana is the submissive in their relationship. Even though Christian insisted that they are not allowed to fall in love with each other, I personally think that they have a strong emotional connect and love each other deep inside. However, Christian is not willing to hurt Ana and the shallow of his past make him freak out so he refuse to admit the fact that he is into Ana.

The movie overall is quite good and I would recommend to you guys if you are open-minded and interested in experiencing an unique type of relationship through the movie. Please do not judge the movie before watching it since everyone has their right to choose what kind of relationship they want in life. The penultimate scene, where Christian punishes Anastasia with a belt is by far the film’s most extreme. In my opinion, it is considered as a inspiring ending of Fifty shades of grey because it makes audiences curious in what will happen next and keep them imagining the upcoming plot.
