A review of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
My another favourite movie of all time is The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe which is a high fantasy film directed by Andrew Adamson and was released on 2005.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, is about the Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, are endangered by a Second World War
attack of German bombers. They are then evacuated to the country home of Professor Digory Kirke, who is not accustomed to having children in his house, as Mrs Macready, the strict housekeeper, explains.
Everyone knows kids love playing hide-and-seek, Lucy as the youngest kid of Pevensie is also into it so she suggested to play hide-and-seek. While the Pevensies are playing hide-and-seek, Lucy discovers a wardrobe and enters a wintry fantasy world called Narnia.
Narnia is under grave danger and is split into two teams. Good versus Evil. The prophesy recalls that two son of Adam and two daughters of Eve will be the heroes and save everybody. Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy must team up with the mighty Aslan in hope of defeating the vicious White Witch. Who will eventually win and claim victory of Narnia?
She found it magical and when she returns to Professor Kirke's house, any time has hardly passed in the normal world which I guess there is no time zone difference; she try to explain what she sees from the wardrobe but none of her siblings believe her because when they look in the wardrobe afterwards, it is normal as usual.
Edmund follows Lucy into the wardrobe and enter Narnia as well and after searching for Lucy, he meets the White Witch who claims to be the Queen of Narnia. She then offers him Turkish Delight as well as the prospect of becoming king and having power over his siblings if he brings them to her castle. After all this, Edmund meet Lucy and return; Lucy is so happy that Edmund sees the other world from the wardrobe so she tells Peter and Susan what happened but unfortunately, Edmund lies. At the same time, Professor Kirke talks with Peter and Susan and suggests she is telling the truth, though they are unconvinced.
Being the second youngest in the Pevensie family, Edmund plays the role of a stupid young gullible boy who causes nothing but trouble for everyone. He betrayed his family and team so he could save himself and enjoy the Witch’s luxurious food. The Witch takes advantage of him and benefits with getting a lot of information out of him. During the story, Edmund sided with the White Witch – but that was because he was dumb and didn’t know right from wrong. After a sincere talk with Aslan, he changes and became a better person, mentally, physically and emotionally. We learn from Edmund to trust no one besides ourselves and the ones we love the most. People change and things go wrong and so we have gone to stand strong and trust our family and friends. We learn to keep our friends close, but our enemies closer.
I personally think the movie had some very powerful scenes which helped by keeping the audience occupied, however some parts of the film started to bore me because it was a bit too long. Other than these few pessimistic points, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. More importantly, the idea of taking a book and turning it into a film is a brilliant idea, especially if the story has a life story hidden underneath. In this film, the story of Jesus’ was resembled by the Lion having a generous heart and dying so that others may live. People who like being put on an adventure, like books that depicts mythical creatures and deadly twists would love this film.
